# How to Create Your First Project in Kommon Poll

> Create your first Kommon Poll project by connecting sources, building a search query, saving the project, and configuring notifications.

This guide walks you through the onboarding process for creating your first Kommon Poll listening project.

Select **Start a New Project** from the top navigation bar to launch the project creation wizard.

Your first project typically consists of four steps:

1. Connect monitoring sources.
2. Build your search query.
3. Review and save your project.
4. Configure automated notifications.

---

# Step 1 - Connect Sources

Before creating your project, connect the sources that Kommon Poll should monitor.

Navigate to:

**Sidebar -> Settings -> Monitoring -> Social Tracking**

If a platform requires account authorization, use:

**Sidebar -> Settings -> Monitoring -> Social Linking**

Within **Social Tracking**, you can add:

- Social media pages
- Social media user IDs
- Groups
- Hashtags
- Location feeds
- App review pages
- Business and hotel review listings
- Platform-specific IDs or URLs (where required)

You can also access:

- **Manual Tracking** - Add individual mentions manually.
- **Requests** - Request Kommon Poll to add a source that isn't currently supported.

---

## Finding Tracking Details

For each supported platform:

1. Open the page, profile, hashtag, location, or review listing you want to monitor.
2. Copy the tracking value required by that platform.
3. Paste it into Kommon Poll.
4. Select the tracking start mode (if available).
5. Click **Track** or **Add**.

### Tracking Start Modes

When available, you can choose one of the following:

- **Backfill 30 Days** - Attempts to collect historical mentions from the previous 30 days (where supported). This may consume tracking credits or cooldown quota.
- **From Now Only** - Begins collecting mentions from the time the source is added without retrieving historical data.

> Historical collection depends on platform limitations, API availability, and your subscription plan.

# Step 2 - Build Your Query

Your search query tells Kommon Poll what conversations to collect.

During onboarding, you can create your query using:

- **AI Boolean Builder**
- **Manual Query Builder**

## AI Boolean Builder

1. Enter your brand, company, campaign, or topic.
2. Choose the desired query length (Short, Medium, or Long).
3. Generate the Boolean query.
4. Review the generated query before continuing.

AI-generated queries may include:

- Brand name variations
- Misspellings
- Product names
- Common abbreviations
- Related keywords
- Suggested exclusions

Always review the generated query to ensure it matches your monitoring objectives.

---

## Manual Query Builder

1. Select **Manual Query Builder**.
2. Enter your own keywords and phrases.
3. Combine terms using Boolean operators such as:
   - `AND`
   - `OR`
   - `NOT`
4. Apply the completed query.

### Best Practices

- Place multi-word phrases inside quotation marks.
- Use `OR` for spelling variations, abbreviations, usernames, and hashtags.
- Use `AND` only when all conditions must be present.
- Use `NOT` to remove irrelevant matches.
- Apply available filters such as country, language, platform, sentiment, or demographics to improve precision.

For advanced query features such as field targeting, fuzzy matching, proximity operators, wildcards, and boosting, refer to **Advanced Query Building**.

---

# Step 3 - Review and Save

Once your query returns the desired results, review the project details before saving.

Complete the following fields:

- **Project Title**
- **Project Type**
- **Description**
- **Topics**
- **Team**
- **Owner**

Choose a clear title and description so that other team members can easily understand the purpose of the project.

Topics help organize dashboards, reports, filters, and analytics.

---

# Step 4 - Configure Notifications

After saving your project, configure notifications to keep your team informed.

Navigate to:

**Sidebar -> Settings -> Notifications -> Notifications Center**

You can configure notifications through:

- Email recipients
- WhatsApp recipients
- Microsoft Teams
- Slack

Depending on the notification channel, you can configure:

- Daily summaries
- Weekly summaries
- Sentiment alerts
- Activity spike alerts

Once configured, Kommon Poll will automatically notify the selected recipients when important activity occurs.
